Night audits are performed to ensure there is a credit and debit balance in all department accounts. It is performed at night because it is easy to check all the postings done during the day (Belanger, 2010). It helps in minimizing any form of errors that might be made. It is the job of the night auditor to ensure that all the transactions have been reported by the hotel staff. In addition, he handles guest complaints and implements guidelines on how to handle the complaints. The process can be improved by encouraging honest among all the hotel staff. The process is made better when the work of reporting cash transactions is broken down among many employees. For example, one front office agent can sell the room while another one does the posting. It reduces the chances of manipulation, which makes the night audit process easy. It can be made easy by applying computerized technology.

The night audit process is very engaging process that is full of many small tasks. It can take a long time without proper technology. Property Computerized Management Systems (PMS) have recorded immense success when it comes to night auditing (Andrews, 2013). The software has a friendly user interface that shows data from all departments in the hotel. Therefore, a night auditor does not have to take long hours verifying data manually. It is easy for the night auditor to call data from the different departments and check for consistency. PMS can perform extensive calculations, which make the work of a night auditor very easy. The chances of committing errors are greatly reduced with PMS technology.
