PEERS RESPONSE:
1) An element of design
The element of design I choose is color. Color is "the sensation caused by variations in the wavelength and intensity
of light as it interacts with the human eye” (Sachant, Blood, LeMieux, Tekippe, 2016) In Bruegel's The Fall of the Rebel Angels, he used the angel Michael in the color gold, the color white to draw your attention to the angel. Then Bruegel used warm colors to finish the story with our eyes.
2) A principle of design
The principle of design I choose is emphasis and movement. Emphasis and movement is when the artist use directional cues to move the viewer eyes across the painting. Bruegel uses arrows, swords, and music instruments as his way to move the viewer though this painting, An example of this would be the "falling angels" appearing to be killing things, so we follow our eyes to what the swords are aiming.
3) A contextual aspect from the list above. Identify and explain why that context is important for art interpretation at the beginning of your post. Then discuss how it influenced Bruegel, the depiction of The Fall of the Rebel Angels, etc. Be sure to provide evidence to support your argument.
The contextual aspect I choose is historical context. Historical context is when the artist painting is referencing something from history. Bruegel creates this painting in 1562 to highlight this first good vs evil. This is when the Angel Michael condemns Lucifer and some other falling angels from up high. Bruegel shows different way that Michael and other angels are showing the victories over all the falling angels. This is an example of what Bruegel want views to depict of what happened in the beginning.
4) Examples of symbolism and iconography in Bruegel's The Fall of the Rebel Angels...
Symbolism is using something that can stand for something else. Iconography is the symbols with in the work of art. Bruegel used demonic creature, to symbolizing evil, he also uses fish and butterflies wings as symbols . Bruegel used angels and bright color to represent good.
