Within that context, how are you distinctive? Within what professional, societal, and/or other realm(s) do you envision yourself having the greatest potential to be inspirational? What legacy would you like to leave?I feel blessed to have been given numerous opportunities in the area of leadership because many of the memorable successes I have had in life stem from taking full advantage of such chances. One such event dates back to my senior year in high school in Iran. In a final match that was to determine the nation’s number one soccer team, my coach chose me to take the final, decisive penalty kick. All the painstaking work we had done boiled down to this trying moment. As I looked around, I could see the exhaustion and hope on my teammates’ faces. As the team’s captain and league’s top scorer, all the eyes were locked on me. I took a glance at my coach. He looked confident. I wiped the sweat off my forehead, took a deep breath, and scored the game-winning goal. It is an unforgettable feeling not only because I scored the winning goal, but because our team’s collective efforts came into fruition. Winning the Green Card Lottery and immigrating to the US is another great opportunity that has come to me. Since the start of my education at Santa Monica College, I have been active in various leadership positions. I joined the Iranian Student Club during my first semester. By actively participating in our club’s events, I was offered the privilege to lead our club. As the president, I preside over our weekly meetings, organize and plan events, make critical decisions, and resolve any disputes that arise. My duties as the club’s president take a substantial amount of time and energy— especially since I take more than 12 units every semester and work to support myself financially as my family is in Iran. Nevertheless, I have accepted my colleague’s vote to lead our club for the upcoming semester because I love to join hands with others to make a meaningful difference. My accomplishments in leadership illustrate my strong sense of social responsibility and unremitting commitment to benefit my community. And I am confident that I can achieve new heights as a student leader at the University of California. ...
