Health Care Provider and Faith Diversity Comment by Isaac Murton: Title header is missing and must be there as per APA.

Introduction

The current day society is made up of people with different religious backgrounds and cultural diversity. The healthcare providers are therefore tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that all people get quality healthcare services despite their religion and cultural background. Although there are many religions across the world, Christianity and Buddhism are among the widely spread with many followers. People from different religious backgrounds have different approaches to healthcare services and therefore the healthcare providers should ensure that they take into account all their concerns to ensure that they do not interfere with patient's care. In the US, Christians make up 70% of the population while Buddhist make up one present (Sooksawat, Janwantanakul, Tencomnao & Pensri (2013). The remaining population is people with no faith background. To provide high-quality health services, it is necessary for health officers to understand these regions and their approach to matters related to health and healthcare services. Healthcare providers should also understand the background of these religions and how they have changed with time. Comment by Isaac Murton: Introduction is not formatted correctly and is vague to the purpose of this paper. The intro should be 10% or more of the word count, basically about 200 words minimum before the thesis statement. Comment by Isaac Murton: Improper citation. (Sooksawat, Janwantanakul, Tencomnao & Pensri, 2013). This is the correct citation

Thesis Statement

Understanding the religious Background of Christians and Buddhists will enable healthcare providers to improve their healthcare services through treatment of patients without interfering with their faith. Comment by Isaac Murton: The thesis is the last sentence of the intro and is never separated from the intro. This is not a thesis because it is not connected.

Healthcare Analysis with Comparison to Christianity

Christianity teachings from the book of Genesis chapter 1 and chapter 2 teaches people about the idea of one God who is the creator of everything. The religion is based on the teachings found in their holy book, the Bible. The Christian healthcare components consist of the seen (physical) and the unseen (spiritual) healing. The religion teaches people to look upon God for both spiritual and physical healing. Although the religion is split into sub-religions with different Biblical teachings, most of the Christians believe that doctors and other health officers' work is to treat and God heals (Shelly, Miller, 2006). Comment by Isaac Murton: As discussed in class on several occasions, this is to be an analysis of healthcare not the religion or people of the religion. Analysis should be of the healthcare provider, the medical practices, and the medical outcomes. Minimal discussion of religious practices, and religious dialogue is required. Basically, analyze the healthcare industry and then demonstrate how these practices and interactions are represented as being foundational in the faiths being discussed. That is the comparison being asked for in this section. How do they practice medicine, not why do they practice medicine? Remember this is a health care paper. You are analyzing the faith and the person of the faith, not health care. I will give you a example of what this section is asking for as we discussed in class. I will generate a paragraph for you to see what is expected. You will need to do the remainder of the paragraphs for this section:The health care industry reaches to aid in the recovery of the whole person. In providing a level of care that seeks to be beneficial to the mind, body, and soul; health care providers are called to be more than a physical instrument in the healing practices. In most medical setting, patient interaction is established by means of loving care, and by acknowledging that all humans are valuable. The foundation of the health care industry is built on this premise, that all life has value, and all life is worth healing. This ideology is the very product of Christ teachings and healings done Himself. The health care industry is the extension of the church’ mission in the world and thus is founded as an opportunity to be missionaries in a missional aspect found in the medical field. The main focus is healthcare not the Christian or the faith. The comparison is the acknowledgement of how the faith lives out its convictions in and through the health care field and practices. You need to provide an analysis of the health care industry and compare those practices to how it is found as part of the Christian faith. Remember minimal religious conversation as you see in the paragraph I did above. Comment by Isaac Murton: You should always avoid ending a paragraph with a quote or cited materials. The final sentence of a paragraph is your closing statement before starting a new paragraph or section.

Christian teachings focus on two main environments. The environmental setup can promote feeling or emotion which can bring either positive or negative feedback. The spiritual environment is based on how one handles different situations. For example, the human brain is part of the physical world while the human mind is part of the unseen or spiritual world. The common belief among most Christians is the connection between the seen and the unseen world and how the spiritual environment influences the physical world. Christians believe that there is a Holy Spirit whose work is to connect their spiritual world with the physical world as well as to connect them with their creator.

The Christian faith also believes in faith healing. The Bible teaches Christians of miracles that can be performed by their religious leaders. While in hospital, Christians do prayers because they believe that it is only God who can heal them. In the recent past, faith healing churches have increased across the US. Some of these miracle churches have interfered different healthcare campaigns that have been for decades. People with diseases such as diabetes have been made to abandon their treatment for God is going to health them, a move that makes their health status worse. Some Christian churches such as the Catholic, Methodists among others believe in the provision of healthcare to the society and they own most of the missionary hospitals. The church also encourages its members to get regular checkups to live a healthy life. Missionary hospitals have run different health campaigns and they have contributed to the eradication of diseases such as Polio, Measures, Malaria, and other diseases in the US by promoting vaccination among their members and other members of the society.

Healthcare Analysis with Comparison Buddhism

Like Christianity, Buddhism is a religion that believes in the existence of a supreme being who is their creator. The religion also teaches people about reincarnation, evolution through a cycle of rebirth which brings about an endless cycle of creation (Veylanswami, Satguru, 2015). The religion also focuses on teaching its followers on matters to do with understanding right and wrong. On health issues, Buddhists believe in a healing aspect that is based on traditional magic caused by invisible powers. The healing process was also supplemented with the use of medicinal herbs and proper nutrition. The religion teaches people about Karma and in most cases, illnesses are linked to Karma. Despite the belief and association of illnesses to evil and sins, Buddhists believe in healthcare. Comment by Isaac Murton: Improper citation. Last name year only never first name.

Buddhism also promotes good health by encouraging followers to eat vegetables other than animal products. Religion has different teachings that encourage people to avoid meat and other animal products, thus making them live a healthy life. The religion is also strict on personal hygiene where washing hands before taking any meal are made a tradition. Personal hygiene ensures that they do not encounter with disease-causing germs. The religion can, therefore, be described as the one that promotes preventative measures to curative measures.

What are common (Beliefs) between these Religions in Spiritual components of Healing Comment by Isaac Murton: I fixed this as it was indented and should not be.

Buddhism and Christianity cross paths on matters to do with healthcare practices. The two religions believe in the existence of a supreme being who has power over everything. Although the two religions have different foundations, they acknowledge the health wellness of their followers. Both belief in miracle and magic healing but they also support the use of medicine to supplement the healing process. The healing process in the two religions is influenced by spirituality. According to Baldacchino (2015), there is great variation between one faith to the other. In the Christian background, spirituality is based on the belief of the existence of God. Christians are not allowed to realm the spirit of healing since that is considered to be a demonic practice. Christians are encouraged to have faith in God so that they can be healed and the healing processes are facilitated praying. From Sooksawat et al. (2013), going to church regularly is obedience to God and therefore contributes to the wellbeing of an individual. Comment by Isaac Murton: As discussed in class several times and in the instructions, what 2 or more things are common in healthcare (not religious practices like prayer, meditations, or in general, but in healthcare) that creates a healing environment. What you have does not meet the expectations for this section. Remember this is a health care paper and thus, you need to demonstrate commonalities in health care practices that creates a healing environment. Comment by Isaac Murton: You should always avoid ending a paragraph with a quote or cited materials. The final sentence of a paragraph is your closing statement before starting a new paragraph or section.

Buddhism indicate that healing is contained in the mind and in the body. The religion also believes in the development of the mind as a pure and limitless process (Nelson, 2017). The mind has the ability to control the body. The religion encourages its members to participate in meditation as a way of healing. Buddhism also encourages its followers to participate in positive activities that will help them prevent diseases in the future. The teachings also encourage Buddhists to achieve positive karma so that they can live a better life and prevent illnesses caused by bad karma.

Important to Patients of Faith When Cared for by Someone with a Different Faith Comment by Isaac Murton: This is the proper header from the mandatory template you are required to use and not alter.

Patients with different religious backgrounds can cause challenges to health professions (Bryant-Davis, & Wong, 2013). From a study that was conducted by Miller and Shelly (2009), most of the nurses with Christian background do their work to fulfill the teachings of Jesus Christ about caring for the sick. When taking care of Christian patient, the health practitioner must take into consideration the patients’ strong belief in religion. Christian patients believe that it is the work of God to heal them and therefore the medical practitioners' work is an extension of God's command of service to humanity. The nurses should offer Christian patients with the Bible and encourage them using Bible verses to give them hope and peace of mind as well as engage them in prayers (Evangelista et al., 2016). Medical practitioners should also respect the teachings of the Bible that the human body is the temple of God and therefore they should not use them for medical experiments. Comment by Isaac Murton: Never begin a section or paragraph with a quote or cited materials. You want the first and last word in a paragraph or section. Also, sources must support your thoughts and ideas, not the other way around. The first sentence in a paragraph should be the topic sentence. In that sentence you want to introduce the main topic/point of the paragraph. Comment by Isaac Murton: Never have back to back citations. Comment by Isaac Murton: This section is to be what 2 things or components does a healthcare provider need to know in order to take care of a patient that is of another faith and not offend them. These components are to be aspects if practiced always, would create an environment that would never offend a person regardless of what faith they have. Again, this is to be aspects of health care field practices such as same sex healthcare providers, common practiced dietary procedures, ect… Not religious practices such as meditation, prayer, bible reading, or anything having to do with religious practices. What you have here does not meet the expectation for this section. Comment by Isaac Murton: Improper citation. This citation has not been seen before, therefore all names must be listed before you can do this citation.

Buddhists believe in meditation as a mechanism of healing. In the hospital where a medical practitioner is attending to these patients, it is important to ensure that the environment is a quest and facilitate meditation (Sooksawat et al., 2013). Through meditation, Buddhists believe that they can transform their mind to develop clarity, concentration, emotional positivity, and calmness that will enable them to see the true nature of things. The other issue that is of great concern to Buddhists is being attended by nurses who are of the same sex as theirs especially when performing different medical procedures that require them to expose some parts of their bodies.

Conclusion

My healing perspective revolves around Christianity. Reading about the approach of different religions to health practice and healing enabled me to understand how important it is to put into consideration the religious background of an individual when offering medical services. Christians focus much on prayers when they are sick as a way of connecting them with their creator while Buddhists focus on mediation to facilitate their healing. It is therefore important for medical practitioners to provide patients with conducive environments to practice their beliefs. As a medical practitioner, it is important to tolerate the religious beliefs and background of other people. Making the patient comfortable contributes to his or her wellbeing. Faith contributes a lot in society and enabling patients to practice their faith in medical facilities encourages them to seek medical attention whenever they are sick and therefore creating a healthy society. Comment by Isaac Murton: You need to follow directions and not alter the template as stated multiple times in class. What you have here does not meet the expectations for this section at all. You are missing the elements I added in after this opening to the actual conclusion asked for in the directions. These sub heading remain in the paper and in the future if you change the template, I will give a zero and you will have to fix it, and then receive a penalty when you turn it back in.

What was Learned from the research?

How can this be applied by a health care provider?
