Hello, Priyanka! I’m Dan M., and I look forward to working with you on this Essay Center Review to improve your writing today. Let's get started!
*Writing Strength:
The seventh paragraph focuses on one part of the story, which is how it ends. You write this:
“At the end of the story, Kieu went back home and found that her previous lover was already married to her sister ( Nguyen, 462). It is entirely immoral for her husband to choose her sister among many other women in society.”
As a result, readers can also focus on the ending of the story in that paragraph, making the discussion easier to follow. Great job!
Main Idea/Thesis
The thesis does not yet preview the points that you discuss to support your idea about immorality. You write this:
“In my essay, I will analyze the theme of immortality, which is evident in the story (Denecke, n.p.).”
In this sentence, you just convey how theme is evident in the story. You can still preview the points that you discuss to show that it is evident in the story. If you preview your main idea and the points that support it, your readers will be guided through the discussion, making the discussion easier to follow. Here is an example:
Original: The story conveys the theme of how the inability to make sacrifices can lead to misfortune.
Revised: The story conveys the theme of how the inability to make sacrifices can lead to misfortune, and this theme is evident in the loss of the whole ship at the beginning, the loss of the stones, and the delayed destruction of the artifact.
In my example, I preview the parts of the story that I discuss to prove that the story conveys this idea. What aspects/parts of the story do you discuss to show that immorality is evident in the story?
Content Development
The draft lacks supporting details that help readers understand why you say that immorality is evident in the story. You write this:
“In her prostitution work, Kieu faces different men who always deceived her. It shows the impunity in the society where men were determined to take advantage of the unfortunate situations of the woman. Despite this continuous betrayal, she was determined to retain her dignity and faced her challenges with courage.”
You forget to provide examples of how Kieu is deceived by men. When you revise your paper, you would want to add examples from the story to support your ideas about immorality present in the story. What specific examples of times when Kieu is deceived by men can you share? Who are the men who deceive her? In what way do they deceive her?
*Priyanka 11876105, you requested help with Grammar & Mechanics:
The word “which” is misused in this sentence:
“The writer of the story also focused on the cruel injustice which existed in the federal system.”
The word “which” is used in non-essential elements, but in your sentence, the clause that begins with “which” is essential since it lets readers what injustice you refer to. What you can use in essential elements is “that.” Here is an example:
“They focused on disorders that are commonly seen among teenagers.”

Analysis of The Tale Of Kieu
The tale of Kieu is a lengthy narrative poem touching on duty, love, and redemption. The main character in this poem, Kieu is a woman, sister, daughter, and wife; all women will find her story to be an accurate reflection of the daily life experiences of women in the society. From the story, Kieu is a person who has endured a lot; she has, at all times, forced to endure what fate has to offer ( Nguyen, 456). One will find it hard to believe that all the events of the story happen to the same person; the story of Kieu provides an understanding of how difficult life can be to one person and others not. Kieu, who was a married woman, loves her husband so much, she understands that she is dutiful to her father, and shows a lot of commitment to saving her family even when things went wrong. [What goes wrong in her family? What does shse to to sve her family? You would want to ensure that your introduction provides basic pieces of information about the story to help readers understand your discussion of it.] Despite continuous abuse by her tyrant lover, she, as a woman, maintained her dutiful nature. In my essay, I will analyze the theme of immortality, which is evident in the story (Denecke, n.p.).
The author of the story takes us through the world of Vietnamese culture and a way of life, which is done by a close look at different characters' lives. The writer portrays the existence of injustice within the feudal system, after the removal from power of the powerful and longest-serving dynasty of traditional Vietnam (Le Dynasty) ( Nguyen, 459). The story also a close look at the status of women in society. However, the story happened many years ago; it still portrays a trues picture of what women remain exposed to different issues that directly affect their lives. The life of Kieu directly reflects how vulnerable women are; they have to deal will many challenges in life just to save their life and the lives of those close to them. To show the theme of morality and injustice in society, the writer carefully analyzed the issues and controversy encompassing the narrative of the protagonist (Tan, 132).
Many consider the work by Nguyễn Du to be moral; this is because it covers a story of a woman who did every possible thing to save her family from poverty. The story acts as a voice to all women across the world that human trafficking is a terrible crime (Christodoulou et al., 27). On the contrary, The tale of Kieu is not an upright work. The story of Kieu is not respectable in any way; this is because it depicts the life of a woman who had to run away from his lovely husband and ventured into prostitution for a financial gain. Her problems started when both her father and brother were arrested and imprisoned. Kieu, who is the main character of the story, went through hardships that forced her to enter into prostitution. Even though she did it with a good intention of saving her family from poverty, compromising herself and her body was not the best decision ( Nguyen, 460). Prostitution act is itself immoral, and no one will be proud of doing it. The act of going into prostitution was a betrayal to a man who she loved. The story exemplifies many cases of women trapped in slavery. Poverty, among other difficulties in life, forces them to enter into activities which are harmful physically and psychically.
The typical human culture expects a woman to be faithful and remain committed to her man. Kieu case was not different and therefore going away from her husband to commercialize her body was unethical. [Commas are used before coordinating conjunctions that join independent clauses. In your case, the coordinating conjunction “and” joins independent clauses, but you do not use a comma before it. When you revise your sentence, you would want to use a comma before this conjunction. Here is an example: “The issue is severe, and it affects the economy.”] It is easy to acknowledge the moral act when Kieu completely went against Kim's lustful desires ( Nguyen, 458). Although they truly loved each other so much, she found it unethical to compromise her virtue. She insisted that I was wrong to sleep together since they were not married. Kieu's decision to later involve herself in the prostitution then compromised the cultural expectation of a woman. Her action later exposed the abusive nature of the men in the society; a large number of them were only interested in her body and did not still to the agreements (Puchner, n.p).
In her prostitution work, Kieu faces different men who always deceived her. It shows the impunity in the society where men were determined to take advantage of the unfortunate situations of the woman. Despite this continuous betrayal, she was determined to retain her dignity and faced her challenges with courage. The writer of this story paid attention to both the good and bad aspects of the life of the protagonist. On many occasions, Kieu is shown to be an innocent character. She was wronged by many people to the extent that she had to do all that she thought was right to her ( Nguyen, 457). For a long time, women are people who are not able to make decisions but to depend on decisions made by their male counterparts. With time, she realized that it was difficult to trust anyone who comes into her life, and she has to consider herself to serve continually.
The writer of the story also focused on the cruel injustice which existed in the federal system. In the 2008 trafficking person report, Vietnam remains to be the destination and source of men, women, as well as underaged children, taken for forced labour and commercial sex. Both women and children face trafficking to other neighbouring countries (Christodoulou et al., 27). The author used the story of Kieu to show how this immorality is spreading within the community. Although Kieu later meets with people who were willing and showed a lot of concern in helping her regain her dignity, that did not take out the whole immoral acts from taking part in society. To date, there exists a vast number of women in Asia who face sexual exploitation and which occurs as a result of the hardships they face in life. Some women are promised arranged marriages and end up being domestic servants in foreign countries. Others also get promise for jobs in industries that later result in prostitution (Denecke, n.p.).
At the end of the story, Kieu went back home and found that her previous lover was already married to her sister ( Nguyen, 462). It is entirely immoral for her husband to choose her sister among many other women in society. The act was hurtling, and he did not care about the feeling of Kieu after the return. One will say that the act was right because the wife had already left her. Contrarily, the act was selfish and showed how the men did not care about the feeling of their women. It was a disastrous ending for Kieu's life; many people, however, face this kind of life and which leave them with a desire for a better world.
From the story of Kieu, the theme of immorality is evident in different occasions. One will find it challenging to judge events related to the story of Kieu unethical. The woman looked like she sacrificed herself intending to save her family, which was draining in poverty. Her good intentions to save her family from poverty, however, made her divert from the right path. The author used her story to expose many more terrible actions which were taking place in society. The good intentions do not in any way make her actions moral. [What are the immoral acts from the story that you discuss? Restate these acts so that readers are reminded of what you discuss.]
