Through Deaf Eyes is a film that tries to give a comprehensive view of what it means to be Deaf in a number of different ways. It is a film that has many touching and heartwarming moments in it. I try to show it to my ASL students each semester because the majority of my students really enjoy watching the film and they all seem to learn so much from it.
What it means to be deaf nowadays is really so different, I feel, compared to the deaf people that grew up in the pre-technology and pre-ADA (Americans With Disabilities Act) era and the really nice thing about the film is that it tries to give an historical look at the deaf community and the experiences these deaf people had. The film takes a look at a number of different groups of deaf people including those that grew up oral with cochlear implants.
I would like for you to watch this film too. You can do this for free through YouTube.
