Ethics form an important part of our daily life, our thoughts, and our behaviors. Psychologists, whether they teach, serve clients, or do research, have a special responsibility to follow the ethical code of their profession due to the impact their work has on the lives of other human beings. This course focuses on ethical development on a personal and professional level and offers an initial look at the complexity of ethics in psychology.
Throughout this course, you have kept journal entries each week, aimed at helping you trace your own ethical development, identify important issues in ethics, and address special questions, or issues that might interest you. You will submit this completed journal as your final Signature Assignment for this course.
For each topic that you studied during this course, your journal entry should address the following:
What surprised you about ethics or ethics in psychology this week?
How have you seen the ethics issues covered this week applied in professional psychology (on the job, in media reports, in fiction)?
Which of the topics that you studied this week puzzled you or piqued your interest for further study?
Reference one journal article or scholarly website that relates to the topic of the week.
Conclude your journal with a short reflection paper that addresses the following:
What topics, issues, or examples in this course have made the biggest impression upon you personally from an ethical perspective?
What are the most important insights into professional ethics that you've gained from this course?
What areas of ethical behavior do you feel you need to know more about how do you plan to increase that knowledge?
Length: 5 pages
Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to the topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Be careful to adhere to Northcentral’s Academic Integrity Policy.
