Discussions
Week 1 DQ 1
Part I: Does truth change? If so, please give an example?
Part II: Think of a moral or ethical dilemma you have faced where every choice seemed unsatisfactory. What did you ultimately decide and why did you choose that decision?
Week 1 DQ 2
What is acculturation? To what extent does acculturation affect our individuality? How might an individual overcome acculturation to achieve independence in thinking?
Week 2 DQ 1
How do you respond to the following two separate scenarios:
A laundromat in Tuscaloosa, Alabama has a sign out that says, "Whites Only".
Second scenario:
This is a hypothetical.
Base all of your information off the information received in this DQ.
Two political organizations come out with new Mission Statements. Both are nearly identical statements.
Organization #1: "Our goal and mission is to advance the education, welfare, and betterment of people of our same racial background which is African American."
Organization #2: ." Our goal and mission is to advance the education, welfare, and betterment of people of our same racial background which is the white race."
I want you to critically think and respond to the above two items. This is not a political science course, but I understand it will generate some emotions that may be political. I want you to focus on bias and critical thinking.
What we are testing here folks is our ability to overcome our influence from pop culture.
Week 2 DQ 2
Give me an example of a 'valid' and 'reliable' WRITTEN source. Let's skip instruction manuals, military, judicial, and IRS codes, and the Bible as an option for a response. Also no regulatory documents.
I want a source you might source for a paper.
Tell us WHY it is valid and reliable.
Be prepared, there is likely NO answer that I will not pick on. Don't take it personal. It will get your thinking juices flowing.
Week 3 DQ 1
Aside from factual inaccuracy, what are some subtle and common errors affecting a truth?
Can you give an example or examples?
If truth doesn't change, then how can something 'affect' truth? What does that mean?
Week 3 DQ 2
Give a personal or public example of when you have 100% certain known something to be "true", only later to find out it were not such the case.
What factors led to your wayward path in the first place?
So did you "know the truth" in hindsight, or were you confusing "truth" with a belief?
Week 4 DQ 1
What is an example of a problem that a famous thinker resolved? What process did they go through? How can you apply that in your life?
Week 4 DQ 2
What is an assumption you have recently run into and how did it impact you? What is wrong with assumptions?
What assumptions have you made about me, as your instructor to date? Go ahead, let me have it. We may battle, but it will not impact your grade--Trust me.
Week 5 DQ 1

We are concerned with how you construct your argument not tobacco. Let me state this very clear: I am looking for how you construct a creative and logical argument--regardless of your position.
Week 5 DQ 2
