This project comes from two problems in your textbook.
The first is on 294, #70. I suggest you watch the video titled “Nested Forms” in the video folder first. In this video I explain how the book got Q(x) from P(x). Next, write the polynomial R(x) (in the book) in “nested form” and used the nested form to find R(3). Then explain why the nested form is easier to use than the standard form for evaluating functions in your head. Cool, isn’t it?
The second is problem #107 on page 305.
Grading Explanation:
a) 5 points for the ‘nested form’ of R(x). Show your work! (1 point will be given for correct responses that only show the ‘nested form’ without supporting work.)
b) 5 points your explanation of why the nested form is easier to use than the standard form.
c) 5 points for #107 part a on page 305. (See the note below about part a.)
d) 5 points for part b of #107. Show your work! (1 point will be given for correct responses that only show the depressed equation.)
Note about part a of #107. You are told to replace x with X – a/3 and after simplifying you will get . You may be wondering where the p and q come from? Your equation won’t actually have a p and q, but there will be some combination of a, b, & c that will be the coefficient of X and the new constant term. You are intended to figure out what those are.
