Personal Water Footprint Calculator - Thanksgiving/Make-up Assignment - RGPL 103 Name:_____________________
Hello Class,
I hope you are having a peaceful and stimulating holiday break.
The assignment has changed slightly from what I told you it would be in class. The personal water footprint calculator is
now calibrated to calculate your annual personal water footprint (as opposed to what I told you in class, which was to
calculate your footprint for one meal).
Part 1 (3 points):
Go to the water footprint webpage: http://waterfootprint.org/en/
Please take some time to explore this interesting and extensive website. Take the time to go through the tabs and
understand what this ‘movement’ is about and how it is changing the way we think of water use.
Please calculate your ‘personal water footprint’ with the extended personal calculator. It can be found here:
http://waterfootprint.org/en/resources/interactive-tools/personal-water-footprint-calculator/personal-calculator-
extended/
When calculating your water footprint, please note that the units are metric. For your reference, one kilogram (kg)
equals about two pounds [1 kg = 35.3 oz.].
AFTER YOU HAVE CALCULATED YOUR EXTENDED PERSONAL WATER FOOTPRINT, PLEASE RIGHT-CLICK AND “PRINT”
THE ENTIRE TABLE. You must do this for the credit points.
Part 2 (5 points):
ALSO, please answer the following questions which can be found using this website’s interactive tools where you can find the National Water Footprint Explorer application.
As of 2011, what was the USA’s total water footprint? ________________________________
Of that water footprint, what percent was internally acquired/produced ________% and what percent was externally
acquired/produced _______%?
Likewise, find the same values for the following countries:
Syria: Internal % _____ External % ______
Israel: Internal % ______External % ______
Saudi Arabia: Internal % ______External % ______
China: Internal % ______External % ______
Mexico: Internal % ______External % ______
PRINT THIS PAGE OUT WITH YOUR NAME AT THE TOP AND THE ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS ABOVE. You must do this for the credit points.
