Analyze the components of political action in nursing.
Political action and nursing is important because nurses have the responsibility to take care of their patients and the health care policies that may or may not affect them. Political action in nursing may or may not include endorsing a candidate that is supported by a nursing association.
Explain the process of policy-making in healthcare delivery.
Policy making for the healthcare delivery is not limited to healthcare workers but healthcare policies and healthcare deliveries may be made by politicians who have little or no healthcare experience.
Apply the principles of economics as they relate to nursing and healthcare.
Insurance is a large role that plays a factor in patients receiving the health care that they need. Insurance companies may deny healthcare procedures because they are not able to pay or fully understand the patient's request for care or a specific procedure.
Appraise economical aspects that influence healthcare delivery systems.
Economical aspects that influence healthcare delivery systems may include government funding that a hospital may receive or if a patient is insured. Other economical aspects that may affect the healthcare delivery system is the technology that the hospital is able to afford.
Analyze legal components related to nursing practice.
Legal components that are related to the nursing practice include malpractice which is where healthcare professionals may make mistakes that lead to the detriment of the patient.
Determine strategies that minimize legal risks in nursing practice related to negligence and malpractice.
Another thing to be aware about is how policies may vary amongst states and the state's board of practice. It is also important to be aware of the institution policies, such as lab values, that may vary across different hospitals (Saunder, 2021).
Transferable Skills
I was able to learned these transferable skills by researching my states policy of the nursing scope of practice and the importance of getting involved in the political scene. Getting involved politically and advocating for patients on a political level is just as important as advocating for patients on the active bedside level (Winter, 2007).
How I can Apply what I Learned
I can apply what I learned from this course by joining nursing associations that advocate for the patients best interest and by staying informed on policies that may affect the healthcare space.
