Unit: Source and Provide International Destination Information and Advice
Unit of competency code: SITTTSL003A
Student name:
Introduction
Africa is approximately four times the size of Australia. Its population of approximately 500 million people includes over a thousand different ethnic groups with their own languages and cultures. Although there are nearly 60 countries in Africa and the adjacent islands, we will only consider about 15 of these countries for travel and tourism purposes here.
Many African countries lack the infrastructure required for tourism and there are a number of (political, social, environmental and economical etc) reasons why other African countries are not currently significant tourist destinations.
Certain North African countries, specifically Egypt and Morocco, are important for historical and cultural tourism. While countries in East and South Africa, attract many visitors because of their interest in wildlife tourism.
There are also some adventure tour options within the continent. For example, a number of tour wholesalers offer trans-African tours from Morocco to South Africa via Kenya and others may promote the geographical features and mountain climbing.
