1.1 The $2.80 per hour contribution per employee that the Zinnia makes to the fund is not a health care provider; rather, the Fund purchase group insurance on behalf of the participating hotels in the Twin Cities metro area. The 4,000 per employee for single coverage is fully paid by the fund. Family coverage costs $10,500; the Fund pays $7,500 and employees pay $3,000 per year. 90% of the bargaining unit employees are currently enrolled in the health insurance plan, and 50% of those enrolled are signed for family coverage.

1.2 Opening Position – The Union is requesting a 5% increase in the premiums to receive eye exams, eye glasses and contact lenses, and dental procedures that the current insurance does not provide. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, the average total cost of health benefits (including employer and employee contributions) is estimated at $6,025 per employee for individual coverage, and $16, 834 for family coverage. Zinnia will still be $1,825 (per employee for individual coverage ), $5,959 (per family coverage) lower than national average costs.
