Preliminary
Literature Review of The Impact of Leadership Style on Employees Performance
Literature review section will
provide information about the previous research finding on this topic or
similar research topics. Literature review information is extracted from
primary and secondary research data resources including books, journal
articles, and websites.
A research study conducted by Asrar-ul-Haq and Kuchinke in 2016, explain that
laissez-faire leadership has negative relations associated with the overall
performance outcome of the employees, therefore, leaders adopt laissez-faire
leadership style at workplace workers show poor performance (Asrar-ul-Haq
and Kuchinke).
While empirical research study concludes that transformational leadership style
not only causes to enhance employee's satisfaction but also results in an
increase of overall employees and organizational performance.
According to the research studies
leadership can be democratic, autocratic, and participative (Iqbal, Anwar
and Haider).
Somehow, in organizations commonly adopted leadership style are
transformational leadership style, transactional leadership style, and
laissez-faire leadership.
Babatunde
and Emem in 2015, Held a research study in Nigerian organizations to
collect information on the impact of leadership on employee's performance
outcomes. In accordance to the research findings, communication style,
situation handling style, decision-making style, and overall behavior of a
leader directly influence the performance outcomes of the employees and workers
at the workplaces (Babatunde and Emem).
Research also discussed that how
leaders can bring improvement in their leadership style though following
effective communication styles and effective decision making qualities that
will definitely help them out in improving their employee’s performance (Babatunde and
Emem).
Moreover, research also discussed the qualities and attributes of effective and
ineffective leaders and outcomes of their behavior and styles on the
performance and satisfaction level of their subordinates.
Sougui,
Bon, and Hassan, in 2015, concluded that the optimal and effective
leadership style can be a blend of transformational leadership and
transactional leadership style. Each style has some limitations, therefore,
focusing only one may not bring as effective outcomes as possible through the
mixture of both leadership styles (Sougui, Bon and Hassan). Basically,
leadership is a broad topic as well as most concerning the topic of today's
organization. Leadership styles apply in each field of life to influence the
behavior of other people and particularly when it comes to the organizations'
employees and organizational performance directly depends upon it. Therefore
even there are a number of research studies available on this topic but still,
there is a need to study this topic and to work on the limitations and gaps of
previous research studies.
