In today’s dynamic business environment, the importance of leadership has extensively increased, as leaders are the ones, who drive businesses towards ultimate growth and success. It is important for leaders to understand that being a leader is not good enough, but the critical thing is to become a leader, who is effective and efficient in handling his/her designated role. There are various traits that a leader should possess to become a good leader, leading the organization to long term success. But it is vital to know that which traits are more crucial for a leader to possess, which makes him/her a good and effective leader. The business dynamics change every day and a leader must have an ability to deal with those changes by altering strategy in right direction. A leader must have the vision and thinking approach to see things in long term perspective and make decisions, which are going to benefit organization in long term. An effective business leader should have the essence of creativity, enthusiasm, knowledge, endurance and integrity to inspire and influence his/her followers to do well (Green 2018)

It is a fact that different leadership theories have evolved with the passage of time, which asserted that good and effective leadership can be learned by leaders, but there is also a major concept, which asserts that leaders cannot be made, rather they have leadership traits. It is a fact that people do possess leadership traits naturally, but with the help of structured learning patterns, the effective leadership characteristics can be developed in people by telling them how to learn these characteristics. The leaders can develop their skills and learning in so many ways. If leaders can work on certain things, then certainly they can learn more to become effective leaders in their business. The leaders should developed the essence of discipline in their conduct and be more inspirational for others. Moreover, the leaders can also develop their ability to have more situational awareness to make viable decisions. They must empower and encourage their followers, should never stop learning (Wrike 2017)

However, it is important to understand the fact that leading country is different than leading a business. It is totally different thing to lead a country than leading a company in so many ways. The country cannot be run like a business organization because there are so many changed dynamics in both leadership requirements. The business leaders have to look for benefits, revenues, profits all the time as private businesses exist to achieve these goals. But when a leader is running the country, he/she cannot be profit oriented as leader has to keep general good for the general public in mind, and make policies, which provide ease and convenience in the life of population ( Choi 2016). In this research proposal, the focus will be given to explain this different with more details and also recommend that how a leader can become effective in business field.

Literature Review of Leadership

It is a well-known fact that when purpose is to run a country or even a business, the leadership is the most crucial thing for both, because leaders are the ones, who lead countries and businesses towards success, growth and prosperity. If leader does not have great vision and cannot focus on broader perspective of things, then he/she cannot be effective for his/her business or country. A business or country, both require great management from their leaders so that better outcomes are achieved with the passage of time ( BanutuGomez 2002). It is also important to understand that businesses have become global so leadership styles should be adaptive to different business environments across the globe. For instance, the leader’s approach would be totally different while working in developed economy as compared to working in developing economy. The leader will have to make different decisions by keeping the various contexts in view (Bersin 2012)

It is important to define leadership so that it can be analyzed that what aspects are more crucial as per its definition. The leadership has been defined as “an attribution made by followers who observe certain behaviors on the part of the leader within organizational contexts.” This definition has defined leadership from a viewpoint of followers that how they see what leadership is. In an organizational context, the leader will show certain behavior and actions, which will be observed and followed by his/her followers (Conger and Kanungo 1987). It is also a fact that leaders have to become more proactive in their approach to adapt to changes happening around the business world. The businesses have become global and leaders have to deal with various factors such as diversity and constant changes due to changing requirements of customers ( Davis 2017). The new leaders in this era must understand that business dynamics have completely changed, so they have to embrace these changes, and alter their leadership styles to conform to these changes, otherwise they cannot lead effectively ( Ehlers and Bauer 2019)

The managers should understand that they have to change their qualities and develop more skills & capabilities so that they can lead and manage their people in a most effective manner. It is important for leaders to do so because business competition has increased a lot in recent years due to various factors such as globalization (Wadhwa and Parimoo 2013). The leaders should also realize that there us various difference between leading people or managing people. A manager may just focus on accomplishing tasks by managing people without looking at their motivation, encouragement and emotions. A manager lacks vision and it count values rather adding value in their subordinates. A leader tries to add value in work of its followers and manages his/work around the circle of inspiration rather using circle of power. Leading people is totally different from just managing them to achieve short term goals (Nayar 2013). It means that leaders should adapt different styles, when they are leading a country, and their approach should be different when they are leading a company ( Robbins 2002)

Research Topic and Questions about Leadership

In this research, the focus will be given to the topic of leadership, and its various elements would be analyzed to see that what leadership is and how leaders use it to manage or lead people. It is important for leaders to realize that leadership is crucial element with certain skills and traits when they are leading business organizations. They have to develop a certain vision by keeping long term goals and objectives in mind, and then derive a strategy, which allows his/her followers to follow a roadmap of success. A leader must understand that he/she cannot achieve anything without the help of people, so his/her followers should be on board and understand his/her vision so that can show commitment and dedication to achieve that vision collectively. However, there is one more thing, which is also looked in this research, and that is difference between a business leader, and a leader who runs a country. The research will try to see their primary differences to see changes in leadership approach and styles. The research will try to find answers for various research questions, and some of these research questions are given below:

·         What is leadership?

·         What are the differences in leadership when it comes to businesses and how leaders lead a country?

·         How should leaders improve their leadership?

Research Aim and Objectives of Leadership

The primary aim of this research is to analyze leadership in different contexts so that it can be analyzed that what kind of leadership styles and approaches are there, which are practiced by leaders in the real-world situations. The major aim of this research is to bring discussion to a point, where focus will be made to differentiate between leaders within business world and leaders across the world leading their countries. It means that research will analyze the attributes of famous world leaders in current era such as U.S president Donald Trump that what kind of leadership style and approach has been adopted by him to run his Presidency. Then focus will be turned towards famous business leaders, who have achieves great success in the past and laid the foundation for other leaders to follow. One of such examples to be analyzed in this research is Warren Buffet, who was one of the most successful entrepreneurs and business leaders in United States. This study also has certain other objectives as well, and few considerable research objectives of this particular study are given below:

·         Exploring the cultural differences between leaders within organizations and within the world.

·         Exploring the leadership styles between leaders within organizations and within the world.

·         Finding ways that leadership communication could be enhanced through leadership styles.

·         Determining the attributes of effective leadership within different environments.

Intended Methodology on Leadership

It is important to explain that what research methodology is intended in this research study to find answers for its questions, and come up with valid conclusion and recommendations. First of all, the problem will be identified in terms of leadership, which means that research will focus to identify a topic, which is to analyze leadership and its difference for business leaders and leaders leading countries around the world. It will allow looking at different perspectives and contexts of leadership, its approach as well as styles adopted around the globe. Then a comprehensive review of literature will be conducted to see that what leadership theories and styles have evolved over the years. Then different leadership styles will be analyzed by relating them to real world examples of business leaders and world leaders. For instance, a business leader example would be taken from primary research to see that how that particular leader achieve success.

It is important to mention here that major method of data collection for this study is analyzing secondary research resources. That’s why literature review will be conducted in detail and each aspect of the topic will be analyzed through available literature including journal articles, online articles, news articles, as well as books. It is evident that secondary data collection will be done and this research will not conduct any primary research to collect data. So, research technique going to be adopted for this research study is qualitative research methods. It means that qualitative data and literature will be analyzed such as different concepts associated with leadership, the traits and characteristics of leadership, different leadership styles, approaches & theories etc. Then this data will be analyzed and interpreted keeping the research questions and objectives in mind.

It is important to mention that research study is not going to use any samples so there would be no sample method and selection. It is so because no primary research is going to be conducted for this particular research study, and secondary research resources will be used to define concepts and derive further research approaches to be analyzed in the future. The interpretation made from the literature review data will be used to come up with most considerable research findings that what aspects are particularly have been found in previous research studies, and what gaps are there as well. The research will also come up with few recommendations for future research as well because valid and significant research data would be analyzed, which would help to derive roadmap for further research in the future.

Conclusion on Leadership

In the end, it can be concluded that leadership is most crucial thing for leaders to understand, even when they are leading a business organization or when they are running a country. There are certain differences in style and approaches of business leaders and world leaders, as aims & objectives of these leaders are different from each other. For instance, business leader only works to achieve profits, whereas world leader cannot do that as he/she has to keep the benefits of general public in mind. Moreover, the leaders should realize that business and world dynamics are changing due to various factors so they should be good enough to deal with these changes, and show leadership skills, which are more effective and efficient to manage and lead people.
