In my overall learning in the subject “People, culture and contemporary leadership"
I have learned a lot about the leadership approaches cultural impacts and the
behavior of people. Throughout the learning in these courses I have comes
across different experiences and I also build a lot of different skills. I
think in my postgraduate degree, this subject help me a lot to grow as a
persona and develop good and effective leadership, communication and analyzing
skills in myself. In this courses I have
learned different theories about the culture and leadership, the teachers have
provided us with different learning material including videos, lectures,
chapters, and podcasts to help me to effectively understand different aspects
of this subject. In getting the help in the understanding of the subject I also
attend the online seminaries of a famous industry leader named Steve Farber, to
know about the different aspects of leadership that can be helpful for me to
learn the concept of good leadership effectively. I personally found this
subject very interesting for me, and that why I took part in a lot of class
activities for this subject that also helped a lot of lottos develop a good knowledge
of the subject (Duncan, 2018).
For
attempting the assessment of the course, I also keep in mind the feedback from
the instructor for assessment 1 of the subject.
In the feedback, the instructor points out some of my shout coming in attempting
the assessment 1 of the subject. The feedback of the instructor was very
effective and it helped to understand what the major things that I am lacking and
I would also consider them in attempting the assessment 2 of the course. There
is no doubt that the feedback of the instructor for assessment 1 helped to
improve my critical analyzing and the writing skills that would definitely
improve my performance in the upcoming assessment. For this assessment, I have
also taken some of the psychometric tests like
a personality test, verbal test, and leadership tests. By attempting these
tests, some of the personality traits also revealed, to understand my strengths
and weakness (Duncan, 2018).
Theories
of People, Culture and Contemporary Leadership
The recruitment is an important aspect
of human resource management that I have learned from the subject. The theory
of strategic recruitment is an important aspect of the course that is an
important aspect of the recruitment process in human resource management. In
strategic recruitment, all of the activities of the recruitment link together
with each other for better business strategies. The interview is one of the
main factor of the recruitment process in the organization and from the
learning of the reading in the class the other theory that I learned is the
behavior based interviews that is also practiced by a lot of organization to
select the most appropriate candidate for the job role. Strategic recruitment
is also one of the most important theory to understand because the whole
process of recruitment in the organization depends on the strategic recruitment
process. When I was doing an internship as a nurse in the hospital, I noticed
that the HR staff used the strategic recruitment approach to hire new employees
in the organization. It is one of the easiest and effective approaches that can
be used in the organization for the hiring and new recruitment of the staff (KUPPLER,
2014).
It is obvious that for a certain role in a job
the employers need to select the candidates that are not just qualified and
experiences but have some interpersonal and leadership qualities to adjust in
the job role and the organizational culture of the organization. There is no
doubt that the behavior-based interviews are one of the most effective and
popular approaches for the selection of the candidates in the interviews. When
I give as a nurse in a hospital for the position of a nurse, the interviewee asked
me major of the behavior-based questions to analyze my responses over different
situations. From this experience, I also understand that who the employers used
the behavior based interviews to understand the candidate’s personality traits
and their strengths and weaknesses. So I must say that for the process of
recruitment in the organization the major theories that I have learned is the
strategic recruitment and the behavior-based interviews from the subject
learning. Both of the theories are very important to consider while the
recruitment process in the organization.

Resources of People, Culture and Contemporary Leadership
For this assessment, I have used most
of the data from the reading and the material provided by the teachers and
instructors in the class. Other than that I have also used some of the material
from the internet to expand my knowledge about the subject and to be more
effective to understand different concepts and theories. I have also watched
some of the Tad talks about the leadership also especially the tad talks of the
business leader and author named Steve Farber.
Industry
Speaker in Week 6 of People, Culture and Contemporary Leadership
I have attended the online seminaries of
one of the major business leader and author in the industry Steve Farber. I
really like the way Steve Farber describes and presents the concepts of
leadership. The Steve Farber is the founder of The Extreme Leadership Institute and he has written a lot of books
regarding the leadership. I have listened to this speaker a lot during the
learning of the subject because the way of making the listener understand the concepts
of good leadership are very effective. According to Steve Farber, the
leadership is not about the position or occupation, but it is a choice that one
can choose even if he is an unemployed person. The leader is the person who has
the ability to inspire the individual around himself to achieve something for
them. By listening to this speaker I also understand that for a good leader it
is very important to carry on its quest for knowledge and gaining all of the
skills that can help him, to be the better version of himself. The leaders
always know how to work in a team and they also know very well about how they can
replicate themselves (Hogg, 2015).
One
of the other traits of leaders that I have learned from the speaker is that the
leaders always take the responsibility not just for their own actions but also
for the followers and the other team members. The leaders are the proactive one and they
know how to control their reactions and responses to the critical situations. I
must say that Steve Farber is one of the most inspirational and motivational
leaders I have ever heard of, and his approach of leadership also seems very
effective and different. So I have benefited
a lot from the speech of Steve Farber and I have learned many of the aspects of
the leadership. There is no doubt that
good leadership is essential for any organization long term success. This
industry speaker helps me to understand different aspects of leadership in
effective mater and before that, I have never think of the term leadership as
extensive and important.
In-Class
Activities of Contemporary Leadership
Throughout
the learning of the subject, I take part in almost every activity of the class
because from the very beginning, I have developed my interest in the course. Many
of the times the teachers in the class take stand-ups from us to introduce over
selves or talk on an issue. In the beginning, I found it a bit difficult for
myself but by the time I understand how to make a talk with confidence and the
teachers also help us to speak our minds with confidence I frond of audience. Some
of the behavior-based interviews were also taken from the students to make the
students understand how to control their reaction and be calm with the situations
are changing and critical.
Assessment

The assessment feedback here also helped
me to overcome my mistakes in assessment 2. It is important for me when
researching my information, I need to use the readings I have given by the
instructor as a starting point, and they are more credible and current than
some of the ones I have used. I need to work on for developing my writing
skills as some of the word choices are limiting how the reader understands what
I am trying to say. I also need to present the theory that applies to the ideas
I am exploring. It is also important for me to- explore what is going on a
little bit deeper. In the previous assessment, I show a limited understanding
and it would be good to develop a better theoretical understanding to help me
to provide an analysis. So I can say that all of the feedback from the instructor
in the assignment 1 help me to overcome all of the blunders I have made in the
assessment 1 and I would also try to not repeat that mistakes in the other
assessments.
Psychometric
Test of Contemporary Leadership
As a part of the learning of the subject, I
have also conducted some online Psychometric Test, such as personality test, a
leadership test, and verbal tests. All of the tests that I have conducted using
the online resources help to know a lot of about myself and what is the level
of my interpersonal and leadership skills to be an effective person in the
future. In the personality test, a list of questions regarding the personal and
professional life was asked, with multiple points from which I have to select
one option as a reaction to the question asked to me. In the leadership test
again there were a lot of multiple choice questions, from this test I come to
know about my strengths and weaknesses as a leader. From the result of the
test, it is estimated that I am good at teamwork and I know how to work with
collaboration and corporation of other team members. I also some to know about
my weakness as a leader, the major weaknesses of mine is the communication
skills, being an introvert my communication skills are not very good and also
while speaking to a larger group I often feel confused and shy.
By conducting the leadership test, I
come to know that I have to overcome my weakness in communication to be a good
leader in the future. The major role of the leader is to inspire people and
motivate them to be productive, so for this purpose, it is very important to
have good communication skills. Other than that, I also conducted a verbal test
that is more likely to deal with words and vocabulary. From this test, I come
to know that my writing and use of vocabulary needs a lot of improvement
because around 22% of my answers were wrong. From this test, I realized that it
is very important for me to improve my vocabulary and the overall writing skills
to the more critical in my content.
Areas
for improvement of Leadership
By analyzing the whole learning in the
course, it can be seen that there is a lot of improvement is needed by me;
first of all, I need to improve my overall communication skills in order to
effectively communicate with my team members. Other than the effective
communication I also need to focus on my writing because, the results of my
Psychometric Test was not very good (Hogg, 2015).
It is also very important for me to
develop effective leadership skills to be a good leader in the future in any
organization. I have learned a lot from the overall learning of the course
about the leadership, people behaviors and the cultural impacts on the
environments of the organizations (Duncan, 2018).
