In Unit 5, we looked at the creation of things and the ideas of chaos and order. Certainly, the argument can be made that creation, chaos, and order are all related. In fact, that point is discussed in the article on Twyla Tharp. Also, we can certainly see chaos and order in the creation story from Hedwig and the Angry Inch as well as the struggles with cats and order experienced by the Dalai Lama in Kundun.
For Wagner, as for Nietzsche, there is beauty in the order presented in the arrangement of Parsifal. That sense of order is stretched and challenged by jazz from the 20th Century. Also, artists are visually working with these ideas, as well. What was formal and "traditional" was considered "good" for some centuries. However, more avant-garde work in later centuries.
For this discussion, choose two art forms that are relevant to this unit (painting, dance, music, film) and discuss how chaos and order works for each. Does chaos reign? Is order established? Think in terms of the context of this course: Why do humans try to bring chaos from order or order from chaos in our philosophy, science, and artwork? Then, be sure to respond to at least one classmate's post which deals with something you didn't discuss in your first post. Work to draw connections between your claims in the initial post and your classmate's claims in her or his post.
