PROJECT PLAN
PROJECT CHARTER
Team Name: AirForce One (D-Team) Term: Spring 2020
Organization: The Highlands School Date: March 7, 2019
1. Problem Statement:
Engineering is a career field that is mostly viewed as masculine and dominated by men, but women are needed and should be valued as engineers just as much as their male counterparts.
2. Vision:
Our vision and purpose of the Young Women In Science and Engineering Investigators (YWISEI) program is giving female high school students an opportunity to participate in a team project with support of Industry mentors that provide a real-world experience in order to promote and increase female students interest in STEM career opportunities.
3. Mission:
Our mission is to sponsor an event that will give high school females in the DFW area an opportunity to be mentored by women engineers. This event will be a weekend fair that will give these young girls an opportunity to help solve an existing problem and learn from women engineers in hopes that they will gain the motivation needed to pursue engineering.
4. Goals/Objectives:
• Our project is designing a program for high school girls interested in pursuing engineering, sponsored by women engineers that work for Ericsson. This will help to persuade our target audience that female engineers are as effective as the male engineers.
• The females are not assumed to be efficient and effective engineers. Through the research conducted by us for this project, we will be able to bring out the information that how the female engineers at Ericson are working constructively to make their organization more successful.
• One of our core objectives is to specify that all humans are equal. If women are provided with equal opportunities, they can produce maximum output and sometimes they win over the males through their hard work and confidence.
5. Milestones/Major Deliverables:
Milestone / Deliverable Duration / Completion Date
March 12, 2020 Invitation event at The Highlands School
March 19, 2020 Lunch with Students (2nd information session)
April 10, 2020 Project Workshop
April 17, 2020 Project Workshop
April 24, 2020 Project Workshop
May 15, 2020 Main event and prices at The Highlands School
6. Assumptions:
We must assume that there are young girls who have an interest in becoming engineers.
7. Project Scope:
• Work with one team of students in choosing and developing the project by providing guidance and offering, support, alternatives and feedback
• Communicate with the team at least once per month
• Act as a resource person to the team by sharing knowledge, skills, and experiences facilitating the team’s reflection on experiences throughout the project
• Enhance the team’s awareness of and belief in their own potential
• Provide information about college and professional industry experiences (i.e. alma mater, college preparation resources, employment, type of work, etc.)
• Review selected reports and provide program participants with constructive feedback
8. Communication Plan:
The team will meet every Friday via GoToMeeting conference call at 4 pm. Team must always be prepared for the meeting by giving an update as it relates to mentorship goals. This is the time to address any issues and ask for any additional help. Also, this is the time that next week’s deliverables will be assigned and necessary strategy going forward.
For transparency and accessibility all weekly minutes will be taken and stored in google drive under women in engineering drive. This will help everyone to stay aligned with the project scope, as well as stay aware of any changes as it relates to project deadline, and completion status.
Finally, the team lead will oversee all correspondents relating to this project to avoid any miscommunication.
9. Decision Making Process:
We have decided that if an issue arises and needs to be resolved than we will apply the voting method. This method is preferred by us as it will clearly demonstrates that which decision is better than others and which decision is preferable for the group members. We are five group members, in case of voting there will be clear majority about selection or rejection of a decision.
Moreover, sometimes there is a chance that group members may vote for a decision that is slightly acceptable for them and they are not totally agreed but as they must vote, so they do so but they are not completely satisfied. Therefore, we will also utilize ranking method and group members will be provided with a chance to rank a decision on which they do not think that voting is suitable. Based on ranks, a decision which will have higher ranking will be selected, after compiling the ranks given by all the group members.
It is the norm of our group that if the issue is not resolved, as a team we will get in contact with each other and come up with solutions as to how to get this team member back on tract. This will include ideas from team members as to what the problem is, offer assistance, and or advice to help the team member and provide support and steps to get individual back on track for example.
