Foster, Race. “Weening Puppies.” Drs. Foster and Smith, 24 Jan. 2017, http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+2108&aid=887.
This is an informative article on how to ween your puppy and some of the problems associated with weening. Because dogs are now domesticated and do not live in the wild, “it is done because puppies generally make their way to their new home at about seven weeks of age, and since their mother is not going with them, the pups need to have their gastrointestinal tracts accustomed to eating commercially prepared foods.” When dogs were wild, puppies stayed with their mothers until they matured and were able to find food for themselves, which no longer happens today.
Nohrden, Patrick T. “The Crystal Monkey.” Patrick T. Nohrden, Aug. 2015, http://nohrden.com/.
This website describes the novel The Crystal MonkeyThe Crystal Monkey by Patrick Nohrden with an emphasis on the difficult childhood of the main character, Min Li. An example of her hardship is when, after coming into possession of the only toy she ever owned, “Min Li's father comes home for the lunar new year holiday, finds the crystal monkey, and sells it, using the money to buy liquor for himself.” This demonstrates the hardship under which Min Li lived and how, when she has a simple glimpse of a normal childhood, even that is taken away.
