International Business Case Study Analysis
Case 1 Analysis Instructions (8% of your course grade)
Due: Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the beginning of class Case: Louis Vuitton in Japan (https://hbr.org/product/louis-vuitton-in-japan/an/910M67-PDF-ENG) Analysis Outline: You should answer the question: What are the opportunities and challenges for Louis Vuitton in Japan? To do this, follow the sections described below (make sure your report is clearly divided into each section and all sections are labeled):
• Section 1: Problem overview (Hint: Keep in mind this course’s contents): Here, I suggest no more than a paragraph identifying at least two opportunities and two challenges that you will analyze in your report (don’t provide details yet—these will be part of your analysis sections).
• Section 2: Opportunities analysis: Use course content to explain what these opportunities are and why they present opportunities for Louis Vuitton. Clearly underline the course concepts you’re using.
• Section 3: Challenges analysis: Use course content to explain what these challenges are and why they present challenges for Louis Vuitton. Clearly underline the course concepts you’re using.
• Section 4: Recommended solution(s): Use course content to explain how Louis Vuitton can maximize or take advantage of the opportunities and minimize or overcome the challenges.
• Section 5: Conclusion (i.e., a brief summary/wrap-up of the report)
Formatting Guidelines: Your Report should be typed using a common 12-point Word font (e.g., Times New Roman, Garamond), double- spaced, with 1-inch margins, and should not exceed 6 pages, excluding the cover sheet, any references, etc. Any text on a seventh page will not be graded. Include page numbers at the bottom of each page (excluding the cover sheet). Clearly separate and label each section.
Submission Details:
In-class submission. Submit a hard copy of your Case Analysis on the due date at the beginning of class. Make sure your Analysis is stapled. Include a COVER SHEET (this should be the top sheet) with the assignment name (i.e., IB Case Analysis), course information (number and instructor), date, and your name.
Online submission. You should upload a copy of your Cover Sheet and Analysis as a single Word document (i.e., extension .docx or .doc) to Isidore by the deadline. Your submission will be subject to online checks of plagiarism.
Evaluation Criteria: You will be graded based on the characteristics of a good case analysis, which are detailed below: Generic:
1. Detailed analysis is provided rather than simply rehashing of case facts 2. Reasonable assumptions are made and are presented clearly 3. Adequate quantitative information from case text and exhibits are used 4. Adequate qualitative information from case text and exhibits are used
Sections: 1. Clearly identifies two challenges and two opportunities 2. Insightfully (i.e., effectively and creatively) uses course content to explain opportunities 3. Insightfully (i.e., effectively and creatively) uses course content to explain challenges 4. A set of clear recommendations is reached and covers all opportunities and challenges identified 5. Concise wrap-up provided
Meeting all assignment requirements (e.g., on time, following formatting guidelines, etc.)
