CODING
Coding is the activity of isolating segments of meaning in your data and assigning a word, numbers, or short phrase to them (Merriam & Tisdell, 2016). When designing a systematic process for coding qualitative data, numerous factors should be considered. “As you collect your data it is important to code it according to the theoretical framework that informs the study (Merriam & Tisdell, 2016). Coding is an important process that researchers must spend time on, the researcher manually coding data or utilizing a computer software program. Comment by User23: The body of the work begins with a restatement of your paper’s title in bold. Take a look at the sample student paper at page p. 61. This title should be identical to that given on the title page. Comment by User23: My review focuses on the substantive portion of the paper, but errors in formatting/grammar detract from the overall quality and presentation of the material. I strongly encourage you to review the APA Manual and utilize the resources of the University’s Writing Center. Please review the template for drafting papers per the 7th edition. Comment by User23: Where is your title page? Do not forget to use appropriate APA formatting Comment by User23: Quoting this material directly adds little. It would be better to paraphrase. Reserve direct quotes for instances where you cannot otherwise state the information better than the original author. In other words, use direct quotes judiciously Comment by User23: The opening paragraph should end with the thesis, which that states your position and is clearly connected to the assignment requirements. In March 2017, Graham Hill delivers his speech “Less Stuff, More Happiness” at Technology, Entertainment, and Design (TED) to a group of sophisticated individuals to try to persuade them that less “stuff” does equal more happiness. Graham Hill has an idea that living in a 420 square foot apartment in Manhattan can be spacious and a person who has less “stuff” can create less of an environmental footprint. Hill is a strong believer that less equals more and he uses the mode of the logic of logos, facts, and statistics, to show the specific ways personal space changes. Hill uses the common ground to give the audience a chance to think about the different strategies they can change their personal space. Comment by User23: Please review the APA re: Reducing Bias in Language. As an unbiased scientific writer, one must strive to always avoid prejudice; select wording carefully. For example, never use an author's first name to avoid gender and ethnic prejudice bias. Comment by User23: Why is this important for the reader to know for the assignment? This information appears superfluous.
According to (Hill, 2011) the listeners reminded that there was a new industry in town, a 2.2 billion sq. ft. industry for personal storage with a worth of 22 billion-dollar. The audience is given the chance to think about how personal space has changed over time because “...we have become such good shoppers that we need even more space.” Personal space is necessary as it provides people with a space for communicating on various platforms as well as a space for personal growth and development. Also, time is a critical attribute as it plays a role as well in developing personal space. Comment by User23: How does this information pertained to the assignment? Where is the coding structure?
(Hill, 2011) proposed a strategy on how people “Life edited” which is living little. He enumerated his three approaches that are edit ruthlessly, think small, and make multifunctional things. By edit ruthlessly, he meant cutting excess things in our lives. For example, to think before we buy if the thing, we intend could truly make us happy. We tend to put old clothes into boxes, instead, we should get rid of them. Cleaning up possessions, filtering through purchases will save you more money. By thinking small, he meant efficiency to limit consumption to what needs. For example, if we need a 3 burners stove, we do not need to use 6 burners. Also, the power of technology is an influential tool to put all good memories, important paperwork, movies books, and, a photo album can be stored, and digitized will create lots more space. (Hill, 2011) put forth an idea and said, “Small is sexy''. And lastly, he put forward the idea of being multifunctional with things that can perform several functions. People can have stackable furniture, kitchen items, such as stack up chairs measuring cups, fold up beds and tables, or expandable types of furniture. Comment by User23: This describes the data source, which is not the point of the assignment. Where is your coding of the information? Comment by User23: This information does not follow the assignment regarding development of a coding structure based on the given purpose statement. Additionally, where is the assessment of the data based on a revise purpose statement? Please take a look at the assignment requirements.
Continue Hill emphasizes that it does not suddenly drastically downsize your possessions, step by step to make changes. This is a lesson I need to put into practice and manifest because I have a constant problem with physical and metaphorical clutter at every turn of life. The starting step will benefit the result in save money.
In conclusion, he answered his question intriguingly of “what’s in the box”. That it does not matter because he knows he does need it. Because less is more, and we must lessen make room for the good stuff. These lessons are also easily implementable into my everyday activities which leaves me no excuse not to practice.
