Running head: INTENTIONAL LEARNING FOR COLLEGE SUCCESS Intentional Learning for College Success Melena R. Alston Ashford University EXP105 1 INTENTIONAL LEARNING FOR COLLEGE SUCCESS 2 Intentional Learning for College Success According to the text book, learning is “Taking in the world around you through your senses, making sense of it, and responding appropriately.” In other words, this means realizing the way people interact with different things and places, as well as how to react to different situations. For instance, one day when I was with my friends heading to this area on the south side of Chicago to go out dancing, I noticed I had a red bulls cap on, my instinct told me that I should probably take my cap off due to the gangbangers in that area. Although I am not of gang affiliation in any manner, my gut instinct told me that I might have to take off my cap due to knowing that the area I was heading into was not the safest area and the color of my cap might deceive a gang member of something that I was not. Luckily, I did take my hat off before we arrived in that specific area because we did pass up some gangbangers on our way to the venue we were headed to. Unfortunately, we live in a time especially in the south side of Chicago where you cannot wear what you want because people might have a mistaken perception about you. Intentional learning refers to the decision of a person to learn something specific. It is more focused on a specific field or subject. I apply intentional learning to achieve a specific. When I started school, I set the goals that I wanted to achieve, which helped me to work hard to accomplish them. Setting a plan ahead of time helps me to focus on the task ahead and how I am able to be successful in it. I set to complete all my assignments early and to avoid procrastination, especially because I wanted to pass the class and have a better future. I also use international learning at work. Currently, I am trying to achieve promotion to the assistant manager role in my organization. This is one of the goals I had set from the beginning of my career, and therefore it helps me to work hard to achieve it. To achieve this INTENTIONAL LEARNING FOR COLLEGE SUCCESS 3 objective, I have assumed more responsibilities at work, such as leading other employees through projects and completing tasks in time. My LCI scores enabled me to learn about my learning skills. My score was recorded at 24 for sequence and 23 for precision. On the technical analysis, my score was 20 while for confluence, it was recorded at 25.
