Lab #2 Directions: As you complete Lab 2, you will learn about compression. Follow the directions below and answers all six questions. Submit Lab 2 to the Assignment box no later than Sunday 11:59 PM EST/EDT. Step 1: Click Lab 2 File and save it as Lab2File to your computer.
Note: Make sure to remember where the file was saved so the questions below in the next two steps can be answered.
Step 2: Locate in your computer the Lab2File that you saved above. Then right click on the file, and select Properties to answer the questions below: Question 1a. What is the format of the file? 1b. Is this a compressed format?
1c. What is the size of the file in bytes? Step 3: Right click on the Lab2File file and select Send To - Compressed (Zipped) Folder.
Note: This will create a Lab2File zip file. Then right click on the Lab2File zip file, and select Properties to answer the questions below:
Question 2a. What is the format of the file? 2b. Is this a compressed format? 2c. What is the size of the file in bytes?
Question 3a. By what percentage was the Lab2File reduced?
Note: Calculate by taking the original file size in Step 2 minus the compressed size in Step 3 and then divided by the original file size in Step 2.
Step 4: Repeat Steps 1 through 3 except this time instead of using “Lab2File” download the video file, Lab2WildLife. (Note: Remember where the file “Lab2WildLife” file was saved to answer the questions below.) Question 4a. What is the format of the file? 4b. Is this a compressed format?
4c. What is the size of the file in bytes? Question 5a. What is the format of the file? 5b. Is this a compressed format? 5c. What is the size of the file in bytes? Question 6a. By what percentage was the Lab2WildLife reduced?
Note: Using the Lab2WildLife video file, calculate by taking the original file size in Step 2 minus the compressed size in Step 3 and then divided by the original file size in Step 2.
