Paper Critique

Find a recent ( not older than 8 years) article from a Journal (a professional or scientific journal) in one of the following topics : (Follow the instructions below. (10 points)

1. Components of information technology management

2. How failures in IT management can be reduced by the involvement of business managers in IT planning and management

3. cultural, political, and geo-economic challenges that confront managers in the management of global information technologies

4. The effect on global business/IT strategy of the trend toward a transnational business strategy by international business organizations

5. Considerations that affect the choice of IT applications, IT platforms, data access policies, and systems development methods by a global business enterprise

6. The fundamental concepts of outsourcing and offshoring, as well as the primary reasons for selecting such an approach to IS/IT management

Journal Article Critique: Make sure you read the required readings; and make you think about the material and follow the following guideline while preparing the one page critique.

1. Please keep reading critique short (1 page or less)

2. Summarize the paper in 2-3 sentences. What are the main arguments? What is the point of this book or article? What topics are covered? If someone asked what this article/book is about, what would you say? (20 points)

3. Assess: after summarizing a source, it may be helpful to evaluate it. Is it a useful source? Is the information reliable? Is this source biased or objective? What is the goal of this source? (10 points)

4. Identify the three points (5 points each) you think are the most important and valid in the paper (say why, 5 points each) => (30 points)

· DO NOT PARAPHRASE THE PAPER, have a critical, independent view. Example:

• “Property A that the paper describes is important, because another study (Y) has shown that systems satisfying A are more resilient to spoofing” (Good!)

• “Property B is important for securing the system” (WHY???)

• “The paper is well written which makes it easy to read for me” (WEAK - argue on the contents, not the form)

4. Identify one point that you either disagree with (say why) [10 points], or that you would like to have seen addressed in the paper (say why) [10 points],

5. Writing – grammar, structure, flow, etc ( 10 points)
