In order to be successful the student needs to:
1. Develop a professional Resume
A resume is a brief summary of your professional skills and experience over one or two pages.
A professional NP Resume does not include time working in any position outside of an RN. It does not include time spent in sales, or as a MA, lab tech or unit secretary.
2. Develop a short introductory letter to a potential employer's office manager, that is 1 page MAX. Within the body of the letter you should identify yourself as a new NP, tell the employer why you are interested in the position, and your qualifications, what you can contribute to the practice, your philosophy of the NP role, potential obstacles you foresee and professional goals. You should address the letter to the "Office Manager" at either your current place of employment or for a position that you would like to have with another employer. Addressing a letter to a physician with whom you have worked with and not their office manager is not appropriate.
