Course Description
Our course is an introductory survey course in computer science. No previous experience in
computer science is assumed. Major topics will include Computer Systems, the Internet, Internet
Security, Hardware, an Introduction to Operating Systems such as Windows, Software,
Multimedia, Information Systems, Systems Development, and an Introduction to the Visual
Basic.NET programming language.

Deborah Morley, Charles S. Parker ISBN-10: 1285767276 Software: A web browser and an internet connection will be required to access the course Blackboard web site. Instructions for submitting project files will be found on the course Blackboard web site on the Extra Credit Projects Menu. You will need access to the Microsoft Office suite of software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access. To complete the Visual Basic programming projects you will need access to Visual Studio including Visual Basic. You will find the Microsoft Office suite of software and Visual Studio software installed in the MRC (Media Resource Center) room BST110 for your use. Orientation The orientation quiz must be submitted by Saturday, Jan. 31

Computer Center Laboratory
Located in the MRC (Media Resource Center). Your lab hours will be completed with me via our Virtual Classroom on Blackboard. However, I will be available in the computer lab and my office during the following hours if you need assistance:

Extra Credit Projects: Points earned will be added to the total points for the course. Applications exercises are worth 3 points each and Visual Basic programming projects are worth 4 points each.
Application Exercises and Visual Basic.NET program projects are to be uploaded to the course Blackboard website from the Extra Credit Project menu on the course Blackboard website. Project solutions must be uploaded no later than Monday, May 18
th . You may update and upload your projects as
often as you like until Monday, May 18 th . Instructions for completing the Applications Exercises projects
and the Visual Basic projects are on the Extra Credit Project menu in the course Blackboard website. You may also meet with me in the MRC (Media Resource Center) or my office room B281 during my scheduled hours. Virtual Classroom: All material will be distributed on the Internet. Class notes, instructional material, and student assignments will be posted on 'the net' on a class website (Blackboard).
