to the perspective of postmodern relativism within health care

acknowledge the role of science in healthcare and acknowledge that science can hardly stand
alone.
2. What scientism is and describe two of the main arguments against it?
Scientism assumes the paradigm knowledge and truth to be gained in form of natural
sciences. Philosophy and religion are taken as types of knowledge that are substandard. Science
proponents, for instance, Pinker, says that the scientific moral worldview of the educated
individuals require radical break from different religious value meaning and concepts, insisting
on believing in God is turning a person’s back from science matters. He argues that matters of
divinity should be completely comprehended as such conceptualization are ignorantly asserted.
Scientism allows subject understanding completely like electromagnetism. The scientism of
Pinker ascertains to people that such kind of thinking is basically scientific fundamentalism and
has no difference from the fundamentalism of Christianity, and Christians who would attempt to
tell the age of the world using justifications from the Bible.
Among the major arguments that scientism faces are from religious people. Theologian
Haught argues that while atheists like Dennett believes that only nature is real and God hardly
exists, and science is the only source of complete knowledge is false ("Review of God and the
New Atheism", 2020). Haught observes that such belief systems of atheists self-refute since they
need them to assent to different belief systems that violate needs of basic knowledge. Marxism is

societies that sponsor or own hospitals. According to research, spiritual disciplines impact
medical values in a positive way, hence, it must be considered in terms of holistic wellbeing of
the patients. Spiritual interests and practices have lately cut across boundaries of Christianity as
well as medicine to important aspects of medicine that encompass ethics. Therefore, spirituality
is the basis of moral living. This shows that ethics without spiritual accompaniment has no roots
and spirituality without ethics is simply disembodied. Christian spirituality guides our ethics and
spiritual care helps patients to make informed decisions on treatment matters. Spirituality
embraces the entire life lived in accordance to God’s will as the absolute guiding vale. This
means that spirituality has an impact on our outlook of life and is fundamental in supporting our
moral paths and lifestyles that we develop as a result of remaining committed to God.
Among the reasons of the existence of Christian spirituality in healthcare and nursing is
because of the current ideologies related to postmodernism relativism. This is the perspective
that does not conquer with the proclamations of full knowledge, science rationality as well as the
role of reasoning. Science is limited to claims about what cab tested using empirical method.
(GCU, 2020). The postmodern relativism perspective tends to subdue spiritualism since it does
not tolerate pluralism. The theory disregards the ethical reasoning and does not have the ability
to depict human life. Despite the postmodernism relativism of difference notion, there are things
that coexist together in promoting the spirituality of an individual and hence, contributing to the
worldview. For example, we should not agree everything we are told as absolute truth and
also against scientism. It perceives scientism as an activity of intellectual life of humanity and
materialism. Scientism is viewed as a threat to the livelihoods and has the potential to destroy
people and things as a result of modern weaponry as well as being disruptive environmentally
due to technology. Scientism also hides some ideas of capitalism of state-monopoly.

3. Worldview questions according to your own personal perspective and worldview
a) What is ultimate reality?
Christians need to respond to this question in the correct way in order to have a better
understanding of their worldviews. Ultimate reality is the search for the highest authority. (GCU,
2020). It enquires about the things that are real in this world. In my opinion, God represents the
reality. This means that He is the complete foundation and origin of everything and the end
towards which everything has. God created the universe eternally. God is perfect in being as well
as character. He is also righteous, unchangeable, glorious, wise, holy as well as all powerful.
Every time I think of Him, I find Him to be immeasurable as well as infinite. He is personal and
his intention towards us is to make himself acknowledged, which makes him the God of good
relationship. God is immanent. Moreover, He is transcendent. Therefore, He is not just a stone
but beyond it. This is my ultimate and prime reality and truth.
b) What is the nature of the universe?
Regarding the element of Christian worldview on the universe, I trust that God is the
creator of the entire world. He is basically an effect and a cause system. I believe He is the maker
of heaven, earth and everything that is seen and unseen. Creation resulted from the word of
mouth of God himself. This was in an orderly, structural and in a system that was very open.
God unfolds to us His eternal purposes on a daily basis. The universe is also open for human and
God’s reorder. Therefore, due to the fact that the universe is orderly, it tends to be impacted by
humanity because the world is an open system ("The Universe Next Door - InterVarsity Press",
2020). The decisions we make as human beings have greater meanings and impacts that endure

forever in good and bad moments. Even if I am a Roman Catholic, I have a rich scientific
background as well.
I understand that the universe revolved around two basic realms: non-physical and physical
realms. The physical realm is normally controlled by different physical laws. Non-physical
reality on the other side is what is hardly related by physics, my individual reality is affected by
senses of smelling, hearing, tasting, and seeing directly. The most important thing is the ability

of the tone in appreciating the environment in appositive way in form of practicing, praying as
well as meditating.
c) What is a human being?
I look at the question of “what is human being? “beyond the evolution concept that says
that human beings evolved from early forms of apes. I see human beings as living, emotionally
filled, having the ability of distinguishing good form evil, breathing and most importantly I
believe we are created in the image and likeness of God. This basically means that human beings
are similar to God to some extent. This was the case before man sinned and the universe tainted,
corrupting the presence of God’s image in human beings. This is the same reason why we agitate
sins such as murder. The only way that human beings can resume the original state as well as
delight in the love of God is through knowing and trusting in Jesus. As a Christian, I trust that
the fallen human being will be glorified and restored someday due to God’s love in Christ.
d) What is knowledge?
Humanity has the ability to know God as well as the world surrounding them. This is through the
sufficient grace of God. Because God is all knowing, we can comprehend something. God is the
Worldview Analysis and Personal Inventory
source of ultimate knowledge. He reveals Himself to us in form of special and general revelation.
Science cannot speak to the issues of morality and ethics, right and wrong. (GCU, 2020).
God discloses Himself to us in special revelation through Christ, and in general revelation
through the order of creation. Therefore, my belief is that God who is all-knowing has permitted
humanity to crack various anonymities of the world.
e) What is your basis of ethics?
As a strong Christian, my ethics foundation relates to the character of God. According to
Sire, we should focus on understanding absolute truth and morality as followers of Jesus ("The
Universe Next Door - InterVarsity Press", 2020) . I acknowledge very well the existence of clear
definition of right and wrong because this comes from the holy character of God. Hence, there
exists standards, which establishes moral judgement.
f) What is the purpose of my existence?
We all have a purpose of living. According to the Bible, our purpose should be living for
Christ while striving to reflect His holy ways. As a nursing student, I intend to apply my
Christianity spiritualism in serving the sick to my level best. Living is having a chance to be in
the world and my purpose of existence is to make the best meaning out of my life by helping
others.
In conclusion, my world views demonstrate the effects of Christianity, but I do not dispel
the scientific facts. I advocate for pluralism in healthcare setting since it will stimulate
spiritualism as well as science. It is important to understand the worldviews of patients through
