Group Project 4
There is one reading you need to complete for this group project: Albert Z. Carr, “Is Business Bluffing Ethical?” Albert Z. Carr’s advocates an ethic that is very different from what you have learned in this Unit. That ethic certainly is the enlightened self-interest ethic described by Nash. But it seems Carr goes further than that. In this article, Carr suggests it is alright, or even ethical, to lie and to do window-dressing by telling your employees and customers that you are ethical (when you are not), hence “bluffing ethical” in the title.
In two full pages, please report your discussion results of the following tasks:
Task 1
Carr’s ethic is very similar to the enlightened self-interest ethic described by Nash. In the comparison table I showed in the class, there are four aspects of the enlightened self-interest ethic. Explain how Carr’s ethic meets all the four aspects. Start a new paragraph for each aspect.
Task 2
Does your group agree with Carr that in business you ought to follow a different set of “ethical principles,” including deceiving others into believing that you are ethical? Why or why not? (If your group does not have a consensus, please report the majority view.)
Notes:
· Your response should be an essay, not in bullet form. There is no need for an elaborate citation system. Stating the page numbers in brackets would be sufficient.
· Make sure you get the concepts and ideas in the Unit correct. Inaccurate or superficial understanding would result in loss of points.
· Turn in your responses via email in a double-spaced, two-page MS Word document. There should be one submission per group. Please include the first and last names of all the group members, and your section time. Please use someone’s last name on the filename for easy identification.
