Project Introduction, Definition and Background and Context.
Meat is one of the most used and ingested of all the natural sources of proteins. It is mostly almost readily available in most parts of the world today. Meat as a source of proteins has been able to sustain the world and cater for its protein needs for since the beginning up to now and with that and the continuous changes in climate and the conditions that favor the growth and reproduction of the animals which are the major sources of the animal-based protein that the world depends on, the sources of proteins are rapidly getting depleted. Meat is special in the place of the human diet since it has the energy-rich and it is dense in energy (Godfray, 2019). The essence of the consumption of meat differs in the various aspects like the environment, of culture, health and morality. There are various groups in the world which consider it a taboo to consume meat or meat products. Various health conditions like the coronary or any heart-related health conditions force the health practitioners to advice the patients to opt for different foods which are not rich in too many proteins.
In some countries where the income of the citizens is low, meat is considerably a vital component of the diet since there is very little monetary capability to cater for the complimenting for the other supplements of the diet and it gives more proteins and greater energy which need a lot of food broken to earn the same amount of energy and calories (Froggatt & Wellesley, 2019). Meat has other micronutrients like iron and complexes of vitamin B which are easily available for the middle-class earners and high-class earners while for the low-class citizens it is tough to find and therefore it is prudential for the low-class citizens to access all these beneficial nutrients in the one element of their diet. It is a very economic food to eat for the less fortunate citizens but in some aspects, the excess consumption in the body leads to accumulation of the excess unhydrolyzed fats in the arteries and veins leads to complications in the health situations and causing the chronic heart or kidney diseases. In recent decades one the greatest problems of meat and meat products in the diets of most people is the existence of obesity and other overweight health problems.
Bearing in mind the special place that the meat and its products hold in the human diet, it is, therefore, crucial to look at its efficiency and sustainability of the next decades. In recent decades the debate meat and its production have been associated with the adverse effects on the environment. The production of meat and products has led to the production of more greenhouse gases which rise in the atmosphere and oxidizes the ozone layer. The ozone layer is very important to the lives and the living organisms since it protects the cell-destroying, hazardous sun rays. 15% of the greenhouse emissions in the atmosphere in the whole world is as a result of the livestock production and livestock is the major source of protein on earth (Godfray, 2019). The rearing process has also become very challenging for the farmers since there has been a reduction for the land on which they can graze on and space on which these take place has immensely reduced due to the increased industrialization. The issue of looking for alternative products for meat is very important since it is to be done put in mind that there are lives and livelihoods to protect and the great need for the proteins to be catered for globally. This project is going to look out for the various substitute sources for the meat in the world. The project is estimated to be going to take a period of four weeks for the involved scientists to look for the best way to replace meat, why it should be replaced and the most effective way by which it should be replaced and the best product to use in replacing the meat and its consumption in the whole world.
If the project on the way to replace the meat products succeeds and is adopted into the system, it is going to be the best way not only for the various groups in the world which are desperately in need for a better nutrition and for the betterment of the health of those who are looking for ways to have a healthy diet all over the world. It is also going for the benefit of all the investors who are going to take place the production of the meat substitute products (Fernandez, 2012). The employees, whether skilled, semi-skilled or unskilled who are going to have the opportunity of working in the new firms which are going to be participating in the processing of the products. The business is going to be dealing in the production, analysis and distribution of the alternative products which can readily be availed to the consumers at the best price and of the best quality and quantity.
The market in the for the plant-based meat alternatives (PBMA) is expected to be available in all the part so the world but mostly in the high-income countries like the United States of America where the people are able to raise the funds to acquire the best form of diet and apply it constantly in their daily lives. In the second and low-income countries, the will also give the other portion market for the PBMA since even despite the limited income, there are conditions like the health demands which demand that they use the PBMAs instead of the meat in its naturally abundant form (Joshi & Kumar, 2015). The processing plants for the PBMAs will be located near the market to ensure that they reach the intended consumers within the shortest time possible. Pricing of the goods should be given to ensure that they are available at a profit to the processing firms and at the same time affordable for the consumers and anyone who would want to purchase them for their consumption.
The risks involved in the process of making the PBMAs the stem food for all the whole or a greater portion of the world is going to be a daunting task for the different companies that are going to take place in the same process. With that in mind, it is therefore healthy according to all the available standards to evaluate and estimate the net income or the net change in income of the firms that are going to occur to the different forms which are going to be a part and parcel of the production and selling process for the rather new products (Froggatt & Wellesley, 2019). Conducting the change in the income levels is going to be based on the already existing incomes so that the company has a clear vision of what they are going to invest in for their change and that helps them to make plans relating to the allocation of the resources and the management of the income and channeling their labor and energy in the right direction for maximum income and for better commodities to the people they are going to be serving.
Net Present Value Analysis
One of the ways to analyze the potential income is using the famous Net Present Value (NPV) method. In using this, the value of the current income is considered against the expected income from the new product under the project e.g. the PBMAs to determine how significantly the final income is going to be affected by the same. It compares the cash flow of the new product, the period of investment and the opportunity cost of the capital (Jory et al, 2016). The Better Meat Co. for example which is based in the United States is helping the meat sellers blend their products with some of the plant products make around $8.7 billion in their annual sales and say if they had the PBMA project and they invested like $ 6 million and observed the income and cash flow rates for the next five years, the NPV can be used to analyze their case as follows;
NPV = PV- Required investment
Or
NPV = Co+ Ct/(1+r) t
C- cash flow
t- the period of investment
r –the opportunity cost of the capital
The cash flow could be negative or positive at any point in time (Jory et al, 2016). The business should accept all their values are more than their actual cost so that in doing so, they do not make any significant loses in the execution of the project results and recommendations.
Work Based Structure
For the team that is going to engage fully in the project to work efficiently and effectively, they are going to utilize the following Work Based Structure (WBS) to manage their time and to deliver the best quality and quantity of the PBMAs.
Project Risk Management
In any project its success highly depends on the rate or the efficiency of the owners or the executors of the project in risk management since almost all the projects will experience some threatening risks which if not managed well could destroy or cripple the project. One the ways to do prudent risk management is to make it part of the project so that whenever it arises, it does not surprise the people involved in the project but seamlessly blend as part of the plan (Jutte, 2016). In the case of the PBMAs, shortage of market is one of the risks to be accepted especially in the low-income countries since a larger portion of the population lacks the monetary capability to buy the products. It is therefore advisable to make the products in a way that they will be durable in the storage facilities without going bad. Identifying the possible threats like the likelihood of regulatory policies intervening during the sales and having the necessary certifications and permissions helps a long way in avoiding the hiccups during the first steps of the sales of the PBMAs.
Clarifying ownership issues, threats and sharing them with the employees and letting them prepare will make them build their muscles for greater purposes in the event of a risk. The employees usually do not participate and become inactive during the time of risks due the unpreparedness especially on the issues of company ownership since they usually feel underrated by kept not knowing about such issues and thus by telling them, they somehow will get ready to love and protect their employer in even in such trying times to make the company greater one more time v. Teaching them and holding several workshops to tell them how to equip them for such times will help them the most.
Quality management
Meat substitutes being products for human consumption, they deserve the most significant of attentions that the products can be accorded on earth. The reason for the movement from the naturally available meat to the PBMAs is to protect both the environment and the lives of the human beings who in many occasions have suffered obesity, and other weight-related health conditions. It is therefore to conduct the various internal analysis of the products and the byproducts in the to ensure that products are safe for human consumption while the byproducts are environment friendly and therefore do not go back to the initial problem of the livestock meat which is mainly produced in the processes which immensely increase the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere (www.iso.org, n.d.). Quality assurance and quality control should be done in the authorized laboratories with the qualified scientists to ensure that the quantities of minerals and proteins are well balancing in the PBMAs for the betterment of the lives of the consumers and carried according to the guidelines set by the relevant and nearest authority. Any time that the quality of the product a product is not assured and the product ends up harming someone, it is not only considered negligence on the producers’ part but also as a conspiracy to kill their own customers and terminate their market base and thus it is imperative for all the firms to follow such rules to the latter for their safety and the safety of their customers.
