I’d like you to think about the difference between listening to recordings and watching people perform. I’m sure you have experienced going to a concert and seeing one of your favorite artists perform one of your favorite songs - it adds a completely new dimension to the song. Specifically, I would like you to listen a couple times to the recording of John Farmer’s “Fair Phyllis” that’s provided as one of the Norton Listening Guides (Chapter 15, Listening Guide 4) and then watch these three performances on YouTube. Does watching the piece being performed add anything for you? How is the experience different? How would you compare the three performances?
Choir Performance
Mixed Quartet Performance
Male Quartet Performance (spoiler alert: you might find this one a little strange or, perhaps, a bit more entertaining)
